Prompt: You wake up to find out that you’re the only living person left on the planet.

Genre: Fantasy/Paranormal

I wake up at my usual time- 6:00 A.M. I groan, not wanting to wake up yet. My alarm is blaring annoyingly. I roll over, turning the stupid thing off. Rubbing my eyes, I sit up in bed. Light shines through my curtains.

I get up, going to my closet, I pick out some jeans and a black t-shirt to wear, throwing them on. I exit my room going downstairs for breakfast.

That’s weird… I think to myself. All the lights were still off in the house. Mom must be sleeping in.

I make myself a bowl of cereal and eat quickly, not wanting to be late to school. I go upstairs to brush my teeth before heading out the front door to get to the bus stop in time.

As I’m walking down the street I notice it’s strangely quiet and calm. I get to the bus stop at 7:45. The bus usually comes at 8:00.

I waited until 8:10, did I miss it? The bus is never that early. It’s still so eerily quiet. Chills run up my spine. The school is only a mile down the road so I start walking.

As I’m walking down the side-walk, a sick feeling envelops me. There are no cars passing by, no one is out collecting the morning paper. Not a single soul is outside. Come to think of it, I hadn’t seen a single person today. Fear creeps into my bones.

I arrive at the school, walking up to the front doors, I give the handles a sharp pull. They’re locked. It’s like a ghost town.

Where was everyone?

I run home as fast as I can, barging through the front door.

“Mom! Mom! Something is happening! There’s no one at school! The bus never came!” I yell, running up the stairs and throwing open the door to her room.

I freeze. It’s empty, she’s not here.

Where is everyone?

I begin hyperventilating.

Am I going crazy? Maybe I’m still dreaming.

This is the first writing prompt I ever did when I first decided to start doing daily writing prompts. Looking back at it now, I notice I had a ton of errors. It’s good to see that I have improved since writing this piece. If you like this story idea and want to know what happens next, leave a comment and I will continue writing this story!
